Learner Outcomes:
Students will be able to: identify motivators or rewards of entrepreneurial careers, distinguish among the different types and sources of startup ideas, identify the major advantages/disadvantages of franchising, outline necessary components of a business plan, when it's needed, how it's written, and possible formats, list components of a formal marketing plan, discuss characteristics and value of a strong management team, outline challenges of designing and equipping a physical facility, define customer relationship management (CRM) and explain its importance to a small firm, outline product strategy and alternatives available to small businesses, list basic requirements of an accounting system, assess a firm's overall profitability on its asset base, develop a complete business plan.
Instruction:
Methods of instruction include: reading assignments, exercises entitled "You Make the Call", unit quizzes and final exam.
Credit recommendation:
In the lower division associate/baccalaureate degree category, 3 semester hours in Business or Entrepreneurship (3/12).
