Learner Outcomes: 

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to measure and correct misalignments of couplings using dial indicators, shims, feeler gauges, and straight edges.

Instruction: 

Major topics include: coupling types; key types; alignment; detecting misalignment; use of typical alignment tools; calculating misalignment corrections; thermal considerations, and practical alignment exercises.

Credit recommendation: 

In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 1 semester hour in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, HVAC Technology, or Metrology (5/89) (6/94 revalidation) (5/99 revalidation) (7/04 revalidation) (10/08 revalidation) (10/14 revalidation) (9/19 revalidation).
