Learner Outcomes: 

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: discuss the criteria for determining forbidden and permissible foods, and correct procedures for maintaining standards of kashrut, according to halachic sources; apply halachic paradigms to new situations/ issues that could arise in the future.

Instruction: 

Major topics taught in this course include: classical laws of kashrut with particular emphasis on the modern practical applications. Topics may vary. Methods of instruction include lecture, discussion, and textual preparation.

Credit recommendation: 

In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 3 semester hours in Judaic Studies, or Religion (10/10) (8/15 revalidation) (3/21 revalidation).
