Carpet Fundamentals I

Learner Outcomes: 
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: identify major types of pile yarn (synthetic - natural) and explain how various types are made; select best tool for cutting and seaming to match carpet; cut carpet straightly without cutting row and yarn for seams on a variety of carpet types; follow safe work practices specifically for delivery and pickup of materials; read basic blueprints and seaming diagrams and scale off drawings.
Instruction: 
This course provides a comprehensive overview of the carpet industry and its basic practices. Instruction focuses on: tool use and safe handling, carpet cutting for seam fabrication, emphasis on row running and cutting of the carpet and using the best tools for a specific material.
Credit recommendation: 

In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 1 semester hour in Floor Covering or related disciplines (9/10) (9/17 revalidation).
