Learner Outcomes: 

Continuing Education for Floor Coverers: Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: identify and define physical and health hazards and toxicity of chemicals; recognize an emergency and take appropriate steps to prevent further injury; perform basic first aid and secure the injured person(s) until emergency personnel arrive; identify and demonstrate how to practice standard precautions to reduce the risk of disease transmission; apply simple ergonomic principles and procedures to reduce the risk of injury to the muscles. Powered Industrial Truck Operator​:  Students will be able to: learn and practice safe procedures for operating both electric motor and internal combustion engine lift trucks; calculate load weights to maintain safety measures; and receive UBC qualification in lift-truck operations.

Instruction: 

Continuing Education for Floor Coverers: This course provide apprentices with the knowledge and skills necessary in an emergency to help minimize the consequences of injury. Instruction includes training in the administration of First Aid, CPR, blood-borne pathogens, the use of an automated external defibrillator, material data safety sheets and general ergonomics (effective ways to work to prevent injury and cumulative trauma disorders. All training is conducted by OSHA-certified instructors. Powered Industrial Truck Operator: This course provides OSHA-approved instruction in the safe and proper use of the lift truck (or forklift) using hands-on operation. Successful completion of the course includes an official road test which students must pass to receive UBC qualification.

Credit recommendation: 

Continuing Education for Floor Coverers; Powered Industrial Truck Operator: In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 2 semester hours in Floor Covering or related disciplines. NOTE: Both courses must be completed to receive credit (9/10) (9/17 revalidation).
