National Wood Flooring Association Journey-Level Installation Certification

Learner Outcomes: 

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: analyze technical aspects of wood species and characteristics; correctly use moisture meters to evaluate amount of moisture present in wood and concrete substrates; explain different wood flooring associations and grading systems; identify proper procedures for sanding flooring using belt, drum, and edge sanders, and applying stain and finishes; correctly install floating, strip-wood glue-down, solid wood nail-down, and parquet flooring; and successfully complete hands-on projects and certification testing. NOTE: Students must have journey-level status to enroll in the course.

Instruction: 

This certification course introduces students to NWFA (National Wood Flooring Association) standards. The following topics are discussed: water and wood, moisture meters, various wood species, grading and packing, sanding, and finishing.

Credit recommendation: 

In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 2 semester hours in Floor Covering or related disciplines (9/10) (9/17 revalidation).
