Resilient Flooring Fundamentals

Learner Outcomes: 

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: explain criteria for a properly cleaned and prepared substrate; perform basic patching techniques; accurately lay out an area for tile installation using the 3-4-5 and swing arc methods; use the UBC INSTALL program; demonstrate how to install tile on both square and diagonal layouts; construct a control and perpendicular line to move as needed for a layout; define key concepts related to adhesives (open time, working time); demonstrate how to install wall base and different types of "inside" and "outside" corners; and take accurate room measurements

Instruction: 
The course focuses on resilient flooring; preparing proper substrate preparation and techniques for basic layout and installation of vinyl composite (VCT); identification and correction of imperfections and/or contaminates in substrate; instruction in how to properly take room measurements and install resilient wall base material.
Credit recommendation: 

In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 1 semester hour in Floor Covering or related disciplines (9/10) (9/17 revalidation). NOTE: Resilient Flooring Fundamentals and Installing Sheet Goods must both be completed to receive credit.
