Learner Outcomes: 

Version 1 and 2: Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: use terminology related to a Siemens-Westinghouse brand turbine; discuss the function and maintenance of all stationary and rotating components; and discuss the Siemens-Westinghouse turbine air compression system.

Instruction: 

Version 1 and 2: This course provides an overview of the key components and operations of the Siemens-Westinghouse Brand Combustion Turbine. While the general structure of the Siemens-Westinghouse turbine is similar to that of the GE turbine, the instruction focuses on terminology and procedures in assembly, installation, maintenance and inspection that are specific to the Siemens-Westinghouse brand. In order to successfully complete the course, apprentices must learn the function and maintenance of all stationary and rotating components and the turbine air cooling system. Students also have an opportunity to prepare for the Steam Turbine course by working on a mid-twentieth century ship turbine owned by the District Council of Carpenters.

Credit recommendation: 

Version 1: In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 1 semester hour as a laboratory in Millwright or Construction Technology (11/08). Version 2: In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 2 semester hours as a laboratory in Millwright or Construction Technology (11/13 revalidation) (1/19 revalidation).
