Stair Carpet Installation, Runner and Upholstery

Learner Outcomes: 

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: demonstrate proper installation of stringers; recognize and demonstrate proper installation of carpet on cap and band stairs and carpet on box stairs; apply proper technique for fabrication of carpet runners for stairs (both waterfall and cap and band); and apply proper installation techniques of upholstery with balister stairs.

Instruction: 

The third year apprentice class shows students how to cover stairs, according to industry safety standards. Major topics include: configuration of tackstrip, cushion and carpet for various types of stair installations (box stairs, cap and band, upholstered and bull nose); waterfall and cap and band installations; fabrication of stair runners; and upholstering a stair with balusters.

Credit recommendation: 

In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 1 semester hour in Floor Covering or related disciplines (9/10) (9/17 revalidation).
