Stretch-In Carpet and Turf Installation

Learner Outcomes: 
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: accurately cut carpet based on cut sheets (schedule or blue print); correctly install tackstrip, cushion, and stretch-in carpet; properly cut and hand sew a seam; correctly cut and assemble a seam using the hot melt seaming method; calculate stretch percentage as per industry standards; maintain proper dimensions of the border carpet when power stretching; accurately construct mitered corners; accurately cut and make seams in turf without shearing yarn; read and interpret drawings and lay out inserts according to plans.
Instruction: 
In the final course of the carpet installation program, apprentices have the opportunity to demonstrate proficiency in broadloom carpet installation and the installation of logos and borders. Focus is on industry standards and the importance that work, materials, and finished products meet client expectations.
Credit recommendation: 

In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 1 semester hour in Floor Covering or related disciplines (9/10) (9/17 revalidation).
