Learner Outcomes: 

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: Draw from observation in a variety of black-white media using appropriate media and/or style of execution for the subject; compose a page that uses illustration with type and basic elements of pictorial symbolism as it is used in illustration; communicate visually by making creative, artistic decisions. 

Instruction: 

Topics covered are: introduction to the art of drawing and illustration with regard to its practice, theory and appreciation, the fundamental principles of line, tone, texture, perspective and composition. Students complete drawings using black and white media and explore their effects and applications in their illustrations.

Credit recommendation: 

In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 3 semester hours in Art (2/11) (4/16 revalidation) (3/21 revalidation).
