Students will be able to: use safe material handling practices of workplace/job-site safety procedures; use MSDS and personal protective equipment (PPE); Use and maintain: hand tools and power tools; use and maintain measuring, layout, and marking tools; describe tool safety issues; outline building codes; explain dimensions and scales; read and interpret various views and elevations; correctly identify and use symbols, lines, and details; extrapolate information from a set of plans; estimate materials quantities; layout foundation; construct and align footing and foundation forms; install, brace, align, and remove formwork; explain concrete characteristics; layout and install floor systems; calculate rough openings; layout and construct wall and roof systems; calculate, layout, and install stairs and other specialty components; identify and install cornice and trim; calculate and install roofing; identify, prepare, and install windows and doors; calculate, layout, and install siding; install insulation; install and finish interior walls and ceilings, interior doors, standing and running trim, and hardware; Perform basic mathematical operations, including: whole numbers, fractions, and decimals; Perform linear, square, and cubic computations; and perform algebraic and geometric functions.
