Tree identification; Forest measurements; Basic silviculture; Horticulture concepts; Chainsaw safety; Ecological concepts/soils; Compass/pacing/taping; Topographic maps; Leveling; Safety; Pre-operational checks; Preventative maintenance; Volume calculations; Fish and wild life management; Ecosystems; Adirondack Park (NYS rec); Trails/campgrounds. Performance Component: Identification of Plant Specimens (15%); Sharpening and Adjusting Chain Saw (30%); Calculate Acreage (20%); Plotting and Analyzing 1/5 Acre (35%).

Instruction: 

NOCTI exams assess individuals' end-of-program knowledge and skills in an online proctored proficiency examination format. In addition, some programs administer a performance component test to assess application of skills.

Credit recommendation: 

In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 3 semester hours in Environmental Conservation, Environmental and Forest Biology, or natural Resources Measurement and Sampling (11/13) (11/18 revalidation). NOTE: An additional 1-2 credits may be awarded based on successful completion of the Performance Component when given in conjunction with the written proficiency examination.
